The leafy tree known in Europe as the acacia (but more precisely called the black locust tree) lures honeybees with inviting white flowers to produce a clean and pure, brightly-colored sunny, yellow honey. Organically harvested, our beekeepers craft this unfiltered honey using sustainable methods that are in complete harmony with the environment and nature. It's also packaged in a clip jar at its naturally cool temperature to retain enzymes and the nuances of its complex flavors.
Full-bodied and very sweet with an easily flowing liquid texture and a pleasantly floral aroma, this is a fantastic honey for cooking and baking. Use it in a glaze for lamb or pork, or bake up a honey cake or berry quiche. For a wonderful cold and flu elixir, combine this honey with chamomile tea, lemon, and sage leaves, then add boiling water for a steaming mug that may temporarily ease symptoms. Very versatile, acacia honey also has cosmetic properties: If you have dry, chapped lips, apply some honey and leave on for a few minutes. Repeat daily to soften lips. This can even be used in combination with egg yolk to moisturize hair.
Fairway Marketplace is brought to you by Fairway Market, a specialty food chain that started back in 1933 with a small fruit and vegetable stand on the Upper West Side of Manhattan. Today, Fairway Market is legendary for its experts and expertise in all things food, and a relentless obsession with quality throughout all of the different departments in its stores. In December of 2011, Fairway launched this online shop, so that we could bring the best of the best of what Fairway offers, at the same great values, to those who don’t live near one of our stores. Why keep all of this foodie goodness to ourselves? That simply would not be fair.
