Gata-hurdes Valle del Jerte Extremadura EVOO - (1L)   Gata-Hurdes is the northernmost sub-region of Extremadura, an area of "accidental relief" -- gentle sun, abundant rain and balmy temperatures. The terraced groves are tended to and harvested completely by hand. The sole olive, unique to the valley of the Jerte river, and having specifically adapted to the un-olive-like climate (the other cash crop here is cherries) is the manzanilla cacerena. And like the famous Extremaduran sheep that give so little milk resulting in the greatest of all cheeses (Torta del Casar and Queso de la Serena), fully 22 kilos of the manzanilla cacerena olives are pressed in order to yield one liter of oil. We detect fragrances and flavors of preserved lemon, almond and green tomato.
