Fairway In The Community

With the opening of the first Fairway Market in 1933, Nathan Glickberg, our founder, established a close relationship with the surrounding community and our philosophy of community involvement. We’re proud to continue that tradition as we grow, becoming an integral part of every neighborhood where we do business and giving back to the causes and organizations that make a difference in the lives of our neighbors.

At Fairway Market, our values shape our priorities. We value our neighbors and customers and join them in support of community-based initiatives focused on key areas that affect us all.

We look forward to working with you to improve our communities! If your organization fits within our giving priorities and you would like to be considered for a donation, please submit your request a minimum of 30 days in advance of your event/pick-up date.

You can download a copy of our Fairway Donation Guidelines & Application or pick up a copy at your local Fairway Market’s Customer Service Desk. Please review the Guidelines, complete the Application and submit, along with your supporting documents, to your local store’s Donations Manager.

Disaster Relief to Our Communities

We donated truckload upon truckload of food, water and other staples to local food banks, emergency relief shelters, soup kitchens, and homeless shelters in Brooklyn, Staten Island, and the areas in and around the city. We teamed up with the offices of the Mayor, City Council, Brooklyn Borough President Marty Markowitz and other elected officials to ensure that the food, meals and merchandise went where they were most needed.

Non-Profit Organizations

Gift Card Program

Fundraising is a priority for most non-profit organizations, including schools, parent-teacher organizations, religious groups, sports teams and other community groups. To help address this need, we have created a Gift Card Program that offers these organizations and their supporters a profitable and easy way to generate funds year-round by putting their grocery-shopping dollars to work. Local organizations purchase our gift cards in bulk at a discounted rate, beginning at 5%, and then sell them to supporters for full face-value. While organizations keep the discount amount to fund their activities, supporters use their full face-value gift cards to make purchases at their local Fairway Market. To learn more about our Gift Card Program, please contact us at giftcardprogram@fairwaymarket.com.

Food Banks and Pantries

Check Out Hunger

Fairway Market runs a focused donation campaign every year to support food banks in the community of each of our locations. During the campaign, each store posts coupons for $1-$5 at our registers and our customers and employees contribute by choosing a coupon that adds a specific dollar amount to their order. We donate 100% of these contributions to the local food bank to help fight hunger in the community.

Food Donations

We believe great food should never be wasted. Because we frequently have a surplus of food, every Fairway Market location donates thousands of pounds of food each year to those who can put it to good use – our local food banks and pantries.

Fairway Market has a long-standing commitment to firefighters, exemplified after the 9/11 tragedy when we adopted local firehouses and supplied them with food throughout the search and clean-up process. In sincere appreciation for all they do, we continue to support these brave men and women with firehouse shopping discounts and unique community events.

Firefighter Food Face-Off

Firefighters are famous for being terrific cooks and are justifiably proud of the firehouse cuisine they create. Fairway Market shines the spotlight on their grilling expertise during our annual Firefighter Food Face-Off events. Our stores invite local firehouses to compete in these barbecue “throwdowns” that feature ribs, burgers and one other surprise dish, with all ingredients provided by Fairway Market. A panel of food experts judges the entries to decide which firehouse gets first prize bragging rights plus a Fairway Market shopping event to benefit the charity of their choice. Members of the community turn out to cheer on their favorite firefighters and sample the delicious results.

Fairway Market Partners with the New York Center for Autism Charter School

Meet Anthony, the youngest member of the Fairway Market team. During the day, 14 year-old Anthony attends the NYCA Charter School, which educates children with autism and other pervasive developmental disorders. Except for on Wednesdays, when Anthony puts on his Fairway shirt and heads to the bakery at the Upper East Side Fairway Market. He gets to learn lots of invaluable skills; we get to learn, too. “I like working at the bakery and getting to do all the different things I get to do…I’m proud I’m working,” says Anthony. We’re proud too, and honored to have Anthony as part of our Fairway family.

Senior Shuttle Busing Service

Working with the senior community in our different neighborhoods, Fairway Market offers a free shuttle service to help make grocery shopping more convenient and enjoyable. We consider this as an opportunity to make a difference in our community and to help make our customers’ lives a little easier.
